Self Portrait at Leno Park

Vandorf Sideroad

Self Portrait at Leno Park is a poem written about my High School. I went to a private school and often felt that the institution manipulated students to compromise certain passions to lead them toward professions that will reflect well on the school. Leno Park is a park located by the school that was used by students to escape the pressures of High School and take part in stress relieving and rebellious acts like smoking cigarettes and marijuana.

Vandorf Sideroad is another poem where I write from a specific location. Vandorf was the street that my childhood home was located on. It was on a 10 acre property in farm land with a long driveway that winds through trees and leads to my old house. I wrote this poem because this home played a crucial part in developing into who I am today. I explore what the house meant to me by referring to the final night I visited the empty home.
